Can I extend minisatellites using the PCR technique in DNA analysis?
In my biology textbook, compare the old method makes the DNA of modern DNA profiling method. It is said that the minisatellite DNA fingerprinting involving regions at the ends of chromosomes, while profiles using STR (short tandem repeat = microsatellites). He also said that DNA profiles is preferred that DOD fingerprints, because it can be amplified using techniques reaction polymerase chain reaction (PCR). So why not minisatellites can be amplified by PCR, microsatellites? Thank you and also if it can be amplified by PCR, why can not be used for DNA profiles?
